Do THIS before the new year.
Hello friend, 👋
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays! 🎉
As we come to the end of 2023, it’s highly unlikely that you finished everything you wanted this year.
And that’s okay, it is about consistency, not perfection. The best way I know of getting things back on track is to sit and reflect. It’s nothing new, it’s been validated for centuries.
Some 2,000 years ago, a Greek philosopher who would later become one of the fathers of Stoicism, said something profound:
“When the light has been taken away and my wife has fallen silent, aware as she is of my habit, I examine my entire day, going through what I have done and said.” - Seneca
Seneca would also become one of the richest people in the Roman empire, becoming an advisor to the emperor of his time; Nero.
Here’s my positive-psychology twist to that quote:
What worked?
What needs work or worth doubling down on?
What’s next?
Starting with what worked is scientifically-proven to develop open-mindedness, think creatively, and think with compassion.
All ingredients necessary to make goal setting (and execution) simpler and guaranteed.
So…
Block out time in your calendar (if not now) to sit and do the work.
It’s powerful
Why is it powerful?
The simplicity of the reflection is where its true power lies. I use it to evaluate the day, month, quarter, and year. Same format, different perspective.
Treat this like ANY of the projects your work puts you on. Bring the same level of creativity, enthusiasm, AND commitment to prioritizing and executing this.
Try it for the 2023 reflection and let me know how you like it.
Have a Super Sunday! ⚡️
With much joy,
Hashim
