Hello friend,
We all have projects collecting dust on the shelf.
You’re not alone when you don’t feel like exercising, working on that project, or making that call.
Did you know that, according to ByteGain, 88% of workers admit to procrastinating for at least one hour daily? You're definitely not alone.
It turns out, the issue isn’t our lack of willpower.
The issue is that we make things harder than they are, which makes tasks feel like burdens (and leads to procrastination).
Let me explain.
Here are the 3 steps that make you procrastinate and how to break them:
(I use this all the time!)
Thinking about how big the project is: You think of finishing the task, which feels overwhelming: “I don’t have time for a 45-minute workout.”
Do this instead: think in mini-tasks. Focus on starting rather than finishing (e.g., just putting on your gym clothes). Let momentum carry you forward.Having an all-or-nothing mindset: You think if you can't do it perfectly, it’s not worth doing: “If I can’t do a full workout, why bother?”
Do this instead: embrace partial progress. Even a small effort is better than none (e.g., a 10-minute workout is still progress).Forgetting the long-term impact:
You focus on the immediate effort and forget the long-term benefits: “Exercising is tiring; I don’t want to feel exhausted.”
Do this instead: link the task to a deeper 'why' and commit to regular journaling to give tasks the importance they deserve. Reflect on how each small step contributes to your overall goals and well-being.
Remember: each small step is part of a larger goal, like a domino effect.
Breaking these habits helps you tackle procrastination and make progress on your goals.
Which one of these will you work on this week?
Have a Super Sunday! ⚡️
With much joy,
Hashim
