Hello friend! 👋
Willpower is a superpower.
Positive psychology research shows that willpower outperforms IQ in achieving academic success by a factor of 2X.
The same applies to professional and personal success.
1. Build awareness
(define the concept)
In positive psychology, willpower is defined as the ability to resist short-term temptations in order to achieve long-term goals.
It involves self-control, discipline, and the capacity to delay gratification for a greater purpose.
There are three schools of thought:
âž Willpower is finite; it depletes as your energy depletes throughout the day.
âž Willpower becomes infinite; when doing something you love.
âž Willpower alone can fail; if not aligned with deeper why.
2. Make these choices:
(decisions/actions to bring it to life)
The good news is that you can train your willpower
I’ve summarized 6 ways you can do that this week. Check out the infographic below:
3. Build them in a system:
(so it becomes a habit)
Set a micro goal under each of the 6 pillars above. Keep it playful and decide what micro-action you will take daily to train yourself in each.
For example, instead of jumping straight into a cold shower, explore how it feels to have a warm shower and only wash your feet/face with cold water once done.
Slowly these micro goals can expand into fully developed habits.
Remember to find what works for you.
Which one of these you’ll do this week?
Have a Super Sunday!
With much joy,
Hashim
